Our Choir

All Saints has had a choir continuously since the 1860’s. It is a typical parish church choir. We have been affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music since 1957 which brings us a number of benefits in terms of advice, education and training via publications, local events and workshops.

At present there are 21 members in the choir: 11 trebles (3 boys, 8 girls: aged between 8 & 17); 4 sopranos; 4 Altos; 1 tenor and 1 bass. Choir practices are on Friday evenings - Juniors between 6.30 pm and 7.00 pm, followed by the full choir practice between 7.05 pm to 8.25 pm.

We sing at every Sunday morning 10.30 am Eucharist or Family service and on special Evensong (BCP) and Weekday services. The music we sing mainly follows the Church of England Choral Tradition, appropriate for parish church level thus our repertoire embraces both old and modern musical settings. We are fortunate in having a fairly large library from which to choose appropriate anthems and other music for the Church s Year.

We also sing at approximately 10 weddings each year and occasionally join with Biddenham, St James s choir and other local choirs for special services.

At Kempston All Saints, we pay particular attention to our young singers and are delighted to recruit suitable candidates from age 7 upwards. We follow the RSCM’s ‘Voice for Life’ syllabus, which is a splendid introduction to learning how to sing properly and leads to a number of levels of attainment. Singing in a church choir can be very enjoyable and can help with a child s development in a number ways - from posture & better use of the voice to a deeper understanding of music & the Christian faith. Expert courses run by the RSCM are also available.
